Application Requirements
Please review the following before submitting your inquiry. AFPD's admissions process is interview-based and entry-level accessible, we do not administer entrance exams or require you to submit documents as a condition of admission.
01
Eligibility
AFPD sets no minimum age for admission and does not require a high school diploma, GED, or ability-to-benefit (ATB) exam, consistent with California SB 607 and 5 CCR §71770. AFPD is an equal opportunity institution and provides multiple non-discriminatory pathways for applicants to demonstrate their ability to complete a program, including applicants without traditional educational credentials. Admission is determined through a verbal admissions interview with authorized staff.
02
Applicants Under 18
Applicants under 18 may enroll in programs that have no state-law age requirement. Where a student is under 18 at the time of enrollment, AFPD requires the signature and consent of a parent or legal guardian on the enrollment agreement, and the student must meet any applicable certification or permit age requirement at the time of program completion.
03
Age & Licensing Requirements (External)
Any age minimums apply to licensing or certification, not to enrollment. EMT/NREMT certification requires reaching age 18 by program completion. BSIS firearms permits for Executive Protection and Physical Security Specialist require age 21. These requirements are set and verified by the external agency (the California EMS Authority/NREMT or BSIS) and are the student's responsibility. They are not AFPD admission requirements and are not collected at admission.
04
Background & Licensing Eligibility
Programs leading to BSIS-regulated occupations (Executive Protection, Physical Security Specialist, and Security) are subject to BSIS licensing requirements, which include a criminal background clearance verified by BSIS through DOJ/FBI. These are state licensing requirements, not AFPD admission requirements. It is the student's responsibility to confirm eligibility with the relevant licensing body before enrolling; AFPD does not require or collect background documentation as a condition of admission.
Our enrollment process emphasizes entry-level accessibility to help you begin your professional training journey with ease. AFPD is committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations; however, not all requirements can be listed here, so please contact the school directly with any admissions or compliance questions.
Background & Licensing Eligibility
Successful enrollment in advanced security tracks requires a clean criminal record to meet BSIS professional standards. All applicants must be eligible for state licensure in their chosen field of study.
How to Apply
01
Admissions Interview
At AFPD, getting started is easy and open to everyone. Instead of stressful entrance exams, we sit down for a personal interview to help you begin your professional career training.
02
Simplified Enrollment
We maintain high professional standards while keeping admissions simple. Our interview ensures you are a great fit and meet safety laws without requiring extra, unnecessary paperwork.
03
Compliance Clarity
Building your career involves different rules, and we are here to help you understand them. We clearly separate our school's steps from outside rules for licensing or benefits to keep things simple.
04
Professional Consultation
We specialize in supporting veterans and working professionals. If you have any questions about how everything works, reach out to AFPD directly for clear answers before you begin.
Institutional Tuition Support
AFPD provides dedicated assistance to help veterans maximize GI Bill® benefits and support professionals in navigating vocational funding. Our staff guides you through the institutional paperwork while clarifying that external licensing and certification fees are separate from AFPD tuition.
Funding eligibility is determined by your specific status and program choice. AFPD does not guarantee external financial awards or specific placement results. All attendees are encouraged to consult with their benefits administrator.
Important Dates & Deadlines
Monthly Course Starts
AFPD enrolls students on a monthly basis. Once a monthly group reaches the minimum number of paid enrollments, we schedule a required orientation for that group.
Orientation & Group Scheduling
After orientation is held for a monthly group, AFPD finalizes and publishes the training schedule for that group. Dates may vary based on enrollment and operational needs.
Plan Ahead
Because start dates depend on when each monthly group fills, we recommend submitting your inquiry and completing enrollment early in the month. Contact Admissions if you have questions about upcoming orientations or training schedules.
